We stayed at Casa Coppelia and it was quite nice. Ray is a very gracious host and was helpful with questions that we had.Breakfasts were ample and good. The room was clean, the water was hot (not always so in Cuba) and the best part was being able to sit out on the balcony. Being on the 3rd floor, the breezes were delightful in the mornings and evenings.

Thank you for that lovely review Anne. I am very glad you enjoyed your stay. Ray tries very hard to run a great house. I will be sure to forward this to him. Have a great day! Mario

We were in Cuba for 10 days and had saved the last leg of our trip for Havana. We researched that it was best to stay in the Vedado neighbourhood which we were glad we did. But, we were very disappointed with our stay at Casa Coppelia especially after staying at 2 wonderful casa particulares in Matanzas and Vinales where we were made to feel so welcome. It was immaculate and wonderfully decorated. The room had a wonderful cross breeze and was cleaned and tidied each day – even our towels and bed linens were changed over a few time during our 4 night stay. It was very clean. However our host,Rey, was more interested in collecting payment for our stay than anything else. We were never offered a meal during our time there let alone a welcome drink! He failed to show us the rooftop patio (which we forgot about until we returned home). Other than showing us the do’s and don’ts of our room and bathroom (not private like we were told) we had little contact with our host. We never received any tips or suggestions when we told him where we were going for the day. When we needed a taxi to take us to the Varadero airport we asked him and his brother (a taxi driver who also lived there)e more than once and they kept brushing us off saying they had to calculate the distance. On the streets of Havana we asked around and got a few answers in the CUC$100 range. We realized we were not getting any help from Rey and asked the restaurant we were eating at the night before if they knew anyone and they had a taxi waiting for us the next morning! Upon our departure that morning he took the key and asked how much the taxi was charging us before we said goodbye. BTW, it is not posted but he charges for the water bottles in each room (better and cheaper to buy your own). It felt more like a “hotel” stay rather than a casa particulares experience which works for some travelers. Unfortunately, we were spoiled by our first two families!
