State Taxis in Cuba

Well, isn’t this a nice little photo. You get to see the three main forms of state controlled public transportation, all in one picture.

On the left, you have the Havana MetroBus. It’s ok for getting around, and the price is really low, but it’s not exactly a fast ride. And usually the bus is so packed, you can’t even get inside, much less think about getting a seat.

In the middle, you have the old state taxis. These are Russian made Moskvitch cars, imported in the 80’s. They are still around today, but the break down frequently and the ride is kinda bumpy.. New suspensions maybe?

And to the right you see the new, state run taxis in Cuba. These are Chinese and Korean built cars, all imported over the last few years. They run smooth and they have air conditioning too… You can negotiate a good deal, sometimes, but overall, they are probably the most expensive taxis to use.
