Great Working with you

Eric and Dennis were a fantastic team. We learned soooo much about Cuba, and they took us to an amazing independent restaurant with a brilliant view and no tour busses! We had a blast buying food from the farmers on the highway. Dennis and I followed a trail he'd never done before, so it was an adventure for both of us. Eric bought us 6 mangos for just 1 peso....might be the best mangos I've ever tasted. And at the end of the night Eric found us at the Tropicana perfectly. I would and will recommend them to anyone looking to explore Cuba.
Thank you for making our first trip to Cuba a special and memorable one!
We already hope to do it again in the future. Also, before heading to Cuba we wanted to bring some used clothing. We contacted a used clothing collection company which works in Texas https://www.clothingdonationsnearme.com/ and they agreed to give us about 30lbs of great quality clothes. The Cubans loved the clothing and we would definitely do it again.

Funny Story

I was waiting for a drink at the bar on the cruise ship when the people to either side of me struck up conversation with each other. The first explained they had booked a 3 hour city tour through trip advisor for $120 total, which was so great because the cruise line's similar excursion was prices $299 per person. The second one responded. "We paid the $299." I told them both about bestcubaguide.

Just as amusing is that prior to our cruise many of the people on the ship were apprehensive about safety in Cuba, but on your guide book's advice I had no worries. And getting off the ship, the other passengers looked so much like tourist, they became the targets of all the "tourist priced" tours....I walked confidently and with purpose and immediately said no as I passed them. And I was pretty much left alone as the others fell for the scam.

On our second day in Havanna, my husband and I made great use of your book. We explored Old Havanna during the early part of the day and tried some of the street food (your guide was priceless in knowing what the foods were). We rambled the area with no real plan except for our stop at the camera obscura. I'm not sure if anyone else on the cruise stopped there, but the show and view were wonderful. Using your pricing advice we hired a cab to Parque Lennon, then Plaza de la Revolucion. We walked to the Tulipan Market for our first experience with MN. I was happy to have a chance to play with the truly local currency.....and I was happy to understand what I was doing with it. Again using your advice, we hired a can back to our ship.

Your book may well be the most useful guide book I've ever purchased (sorry Lonely Planet, Foders, etc).

Thanks again to you for helping make my visit to Cuba a very special one.

Australian Review

Just got back yesterday to Australia from Florida. Its so far from Australia!

Seriously jet lagged.

I re-read your emails about Cuba and you certainly have good insights.

We arrived in a guest house in old havana organized by the tour company.

Room clean and comfortable. House nice, but you could tell from start that it was just a business and after inquiring i found out it was owned by some Spanish guy and people in the casa were employees. Wasnt so friendly but ok.

Loved old Havana. First night we met some funny guys in a cheap bar close by and ended up doing what all the guides say not to do and went with them to Ukrainian bar on malecon. Great view of the town etc and lots of fun.

We paid but we didn't mind. It was our choice.

Had to get used to realising on the street that everyone wants something from you. Its annoying but understandable. Learned a lot on the tour and by talking to locals about their lousy pay rates etc.

I felt in general that what they want and need is more money and that the revolution should enter a new phase. Someone is making lots of money from tourism and its not many locals. Food etc is a ridiculous price for them. Tourists get sick of tipping as its not as cheap as we expected. Anyway that is just some observations. Bit like Bali in some ways and you have to adjust and thank people kindly without taking it personally. I got a bit upset when told when a restaurant was closed when it wasn't. I went anyway and it was very expensive.

The guide on trip was excellent. Very good english. I like vinales but mainly the people in tobacco farm who seemed genuine.

Wasnt made about Trinidad but beach good. Liked cienfuegos. Lovely town.

Havana was our favourite.

Resort in varadero, cuatro palmas was ok. Buffet food was a bit same same but cuban restaurant good. Pool was annoying with people hogging chairs with umbrellas overnight. Weather quite windy so beach not very enjoyable.

Lots of people from Quebec. Not so easy to meet people at resort as there were groups and many of them were regulars. Drinks were watered down which was annoying.

Lovely staff, super friendly. Best part of it. Rooms good but like Bali had maintenance issues. Shower just ok and hot water unreliable. Hard to compare to other resorts as its our first.

Probably wouldnt return mainly because its so bloody far from Australia. We would probably do Bali or Cambodia again. Cuba climate and beaches better but food in Bali heaps better. Food in Havana surprisingly good but we got sick of buffet food at varadero. Loved the people in Cuba. That and the architecture was the best although ironically people there would prefer modern.

Sometimes it feels a bit weird when we in the affluent west enjoy the authenticity of a country while we watch the suffering of the people. I know its all relative but i think you will understand what i mean.

Thanks again for all your advice and if we did go again i would follow your suggestions but i feel for first timers our tour was a good idea.

Luckily my Spanglish got us by. It would have been tricky without it.

Excellent Job

Just wanted to tell you that both of guides you arranged for us were excellent! Manuel in Cienfuegos was cheerful and unflappable in spite of a rainstorm which left us stranded for a half hour. And Amalia in Havana was outstanding! She was extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond to help us. We will request that you arrange another tour with her the next time we visit Havana.

Your guidebook was by far the best of the several that we read, and your tours were great. We liked Havana a lot and hope to come back in 2019. We will be in touch with you to arrange more tours as soon as our travel plans solidify. And of course we’ll recommend you enthusiastically to anyone planning a Cuba trip.

Thank you for being so responsive and helpful,
