Casa Particular Vitrales is located in Nuevo Vedado, about 5 minutes walking to the Havana Zoo and the Havana Viazul Terminal. The house is about 5 minutes walking to the huge Tulipan Market and less than 10 minutes walking to the Plaza de La Revolucion.

You get the house to yourself. It has 3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, 1 powder room, a living room and dining area. The house is surrounded by trees and grass and has many outdoor areas to relax. The house is on 2 levels – Bedroom are on the second floor.

The bedrooms all have queen beds. Two bedrooms have air conditioning, the other bedroom has a fan.

The landlord, Teresa, lives at the back of the house, in a separate area, but is available to answer questions. Guests get the keys and can come and go in complete privacy. There is also a wall safe in the house, to store money or valuables.

I like urban exploration, so I was happy to learn about the “hidden” places to explore in Havana. I loved walking inside the abandoned buildings. No other guides explain how to do this. If you actually want to explore Cuba on your own, and learn about Cuban life, you need this guide. Books from Globe Trekker, Lonely Planet and Rough Guide are pathetic in comparison.

The listings for the cheap casas particulares is awesome. I rented a large, private apartment, and it cost only $25 per night. I booked online and saved more than $10 per night. I avoided the hidden brokerage charges that other websites charge. Anyway, I saved a lot of money on a 10 day stay. Well worth the price of buying this book.
