This is an older style state taxi in Cuba. As you can see from the photo, these taxis often require unscheduled maintenance. The drivers get to know these cars very well, and most minor repairs are done on the fly. These taxis are slow, bumpy, and they lack some of the creature comforts of modern vehicles, such as seat belts and air conditioning. But they are very popular. They are still expensive by local standards, but they are cheaper to use than the newer style state taxis. You can easily hail one of these cars and get a trip across town for about 5CUC or less.
