Hi have read this guide twice by now, and made various notes regarding our next trip to Havana in May this year. I have also contacted a few “Casas” to try and book a room and most of them have quoted me 5cuc¨s more than the price quoted in this guide…just wonder if the prices have gone up since…e.g..this Casa ( Jose Luizs y Maribel) are asking 25cuc´s per room per night and breakfast from 1 to 5 cuc´s.
Hi, I will personally contact Maribel and Jose Luis tomorrow morning and find out why they are asking more money. It is not fair that they try to charge more money after I have already put their casa in my guide. I will make sure to figure out this problem and I will write you back tomorrow.
What I would do is that anytime one of these hosts tries to boost the price for no reason, you simply have to quote the price in the guide and tell them that if they refuse to honor the price that they agreed to, then you will report it to me (and I will remove them from the guidebook) and you will stay at a different casa. I have a long list of casas and I can easily find you another place to stay. There is no shortage of casas in Havana. I will contact you again tomorrow with an update. And if you will, please tell me what dates you will be staying in Havana and I can make the reservation for you, it’s no problem. Thank you, Mario Rizzi
Hi, so I contacted Maribel, and she said that the price is 20cuc. She did not realize that you were contacting her because you saw the casa in the guidebook.
The casas in my guide are cheaper because I do not charge a commission. For some reason, Maribel thought that you were working with a broker and that she was going to have to pay somebody a commission, so she boosted your price 5cuc in order to cover the commission cost. Since you are not using a broker and I never charge a commission, your price is lower, so only 20cuc per night.
I am sorry about the confusion. I have not contacted Jose Luis yet because I am not sure which casa you were referring to. Is it CASA Vivian and Luis? Those guys have 2 casas. One is s private room, and one is a private apartment. The private room should be only 20cuc. If they say that it is more, then tell them that you saw it in the guidebook for only 20cuc.. But if they do not honor the prices, just tell me and I will contact them.
I hope you have a great trip Carlos, and please contact me if you have any problems or issues. I will make sure to do my best to resolve them.
thanks,
Mario
Hi Carlos, I had my assistant contact Mirabel and they spoke for a while. Mirabel’s email address has been changed recently. I will have to update this email in the guide. Things change fast in Cuba, so I have to always keep the guide updated. I will do this right away.
As for the price, Mirabel insists that it was just a misunderstanding. Apparently, her regular price is 25cuc per night, but she gives people who use my guide a discount. So, all you need to do is mention in the email that you saw the price of 20cuc in the guidebook (Real Havana, by Mario Rizzi) and she will give that price.
Here is the email from my assistant:
Anyway, I am very sorry about the confusion. Mirabel just did not understand that you saw the price in the guidebook. In either case, I will be working with her to make sure that this does not happen again. In my opinion, it is always better just to have a good, low price, rather than to have different prices for different clients. It causes confusion and is not very fair. I will try my best so that this does not happen again.
And Carlos, do not hesitate to contact me again if you have any other issues. I know a lot of people in Havana and I can take care of any problem you might encounter. Also, for the booking of the house, feel free to send me a text, or to contact my assistant Claudia, who is always in Havana and works as a travel agent, at her cell phone number 535 389 5036.
Have a wonderful time in Havana and thanks again for enjoying my guidebook.
Mario Rizzi.
Thanks Mario
Thanks for your concern.
I have contacted other casas in your guide I will let you know the outcome.
Can’t wait to go to Havana and visit some of your recommended places like a local.
Great guide I will recommend it to anyone in my T.A. Havana reviews.
Saludos
Carlos
